Hamburg, then St. Michael Station, then Albertville
The town site was platted in 1881 as Hamburg by Joseph and Josephine Vetsch, after the railroad bought a strip of their land for track. It incorporated in 1902 as the village of St. Michael Station, with 190 people living here. The Catholic Church of St. Albert was finished the same year and named for Albert Zachman, and the village eventually took his name too.
The original core around that church is the only meaningful pre-war building stock in the city. If your house is in it, the roof and the trim details are a different job from the ones on the edge of town, and we scope them differently.
Forty flat years, then everything at once
Albertville had 222 people in 1910 and 238 in 1950. It barely moved for four decades. Then it went to 3,621 by 2000, 7,044 by 2010 and 7,896 by 2020.
That means the city's roofs are bunched into a narrow band of build years, and they will come due in a narrow band too. Halfway to St. Cloud, on open ground
Albertville sits on I-94 at what the city describes as the halfway point between Minneapolis and St. Cloud, about four and three-quarter square miles at 961 feet. The subdivisions here went up on former farm ground, and the tree cover is young where there is any at all.

The Albertville Premium Outlets opened in April 2000 and expanded in 2004, and the commercial ground along County Road 19 grew up around it.
