The second half of the deadline is visibility. Once snow is on the roof, nobody can see the roof. Slope matters too: a gutter that does not pitch consistently toward its downspouts holds standing water, and standing water is the first thing to freeze solid and start building ice at the low point. Does the attic need to be part of a pre-winter roof inspection?
